The Great Adventures of the Yamaha Viking VI
16-Apr-21

Group:
  1. John Deere 2 Seater: Jim & Elaine Fowler
  2. Yamaha Viking VI: Gary and Gnettie Eisert, Karen Myers
We headed out to explore the Purple Pansy Mine. Other names for the mine are the Pump Mine and Fuggat Mine. From there we found a quartz deposit, another huge manganese mine hole, and then the southern route to get to the Black Rock Mine. Most of the southern route was in a narrow wash. From there we went to the micro wave station to see the empty parking lot.

Purple Pansy Mine. Coordinates; 33° 45.929'N, 113° 7.668'W
Mine Office ? Cement reminders of an era passed.

Nature takes its toll. The gang exploring up the hill. Jim, Karen, Elaine and Gnettie behind the tree.

Water Tanks. Must have been a lot of water here a century ago. There are 2 sets of these tanks on site. A mine shaft with the ladder still intact.

Looking down at the Utv's. Tanks are empty.

A little ways down the road we came across a manganese mine. 33° 45.310'N 113° 7.542'W
the white spot in the lower right is a quartz deposit.

Hard to capture but this is actually a cliff. About 100 feet down. View to the south.

Heading southwest from the mine, we found a area covered in lichen. The indians used lichen for coloring.

Took the road you see here. From the white line on the upper right, then through the upper wash all the way to the left where a road crosses the wash.
We took that road and headed to a the Black Rock Manganese Mine.
We spot some deer. A peek-a-boo eye in the distance.

We arrived at the Black Rock Manganese Mine. We could actually drive right down into it. 33° 44.153'N 113° 11.058'W
Yamaha at the bottom. Caves everywhere.

From here we went back to Eagle Eye road and went north a few miles and turned right onto the Microwave Station road.
Dead calf.. Stinking to high heaven. Along the way we found a grave site. Wonder who is buried here out in the middle of nowhere.

Karen and her new pet. Dead pets are easier to take care of.

Cactus in the distance. Rock collecting.

Microwave Station site in 2016. Now an empty lot.

A spectacular desert view looking west. The motley crew. Karen is taking the picture.

A deer had met it's fate. A coyote's lunch.
